  1. Why did the last few pre-jump posts make more sense than anything else we’ve said on here for the last few years?

Also, why have you been Anonymised, Steve? How very rude.

I shall write to the Queen.

  2. My understanding is that Anonymous will still be styled “Anonymous” if knighted, unless he becomes a citizen.

  3. Sir Anonymous. That sounds like one, real word if you say it fast enough. Possibly something linguistic. Or medical.

  4. Would that be “synonymous?”

Apparently, changing to a brandy new MBP didn’t help my ability to post here. Running Firefox. Any issues, cousins?

    Steve G.

  5. While it’s true that the president of the United States was rude to the queen, I think it’s fair to say that he in no way embodies the values that we stateside CARS denizens hold. I hope Her Majesty will see fit to throw her considerable weight around and help restore Steve’s good name.

  6. I’m not sure you can restore something that never was, Ace.

That said, it is nevertheless most rude that he remains bereft of said moniker, regardless of its virtue. I’m running Safari and it all seems fine for me, for once (it’s a tad wobbly on many sites, many of them Apple’s own, bizarrely). Not sure why Firefox is blanking you. Did you use Internet Explorer in a former life?

  7. I’ll take the assist from Her Majesty, just not those corgis.

My name is what it is, valuable or not. I’ll take what I can get. Free money is always good. 🙂

Sadly, I need to use Internet Explorer at work, for a work-related tool that does not function under other browsers.

So, it is unusual behavior, even for this site.

    Steve G.

  8. To express solidarity with the oppressed, I considered changing my name to Anonymous, but decided that the situation is confusing enough as it is.

I access this site most often using Opera Coast on my iPhone or Safari or Opera on my iMac. So far, so good.

  9. I considered changing my name to Ace when you considered changing your name to Anonymous. But then decided to keep my name here, but change my *bank details* to Ace.

I’m sure that will work out just fine: it’s spend, spend, spend from here, baby!

  10. Did I miss anything? Been MIA/incognito the last few days, due to moving.

Yet, I’m still stuck as being Anonymous.

    Steve G.

  11. A Steve by any other name is still a Steve. Woz, for example.

You’re moving again? Up in the world?

  12. Ace, you’ve been re-Frostied in my browser. Is that a re-new thing, or is it just ‘cos I’m on holiday and (unusually) browsing on the laptop?

And I just assumed Steve meant moving in the bowels. Our first port of call over here in Great Scatalogia.

  13. PS: I’ve not really been anonymised: this is just because I’m on the laptop. Normal ‘Brother Mugga’ ID will be restored in a few days. Keep Calm and drink tea. That is all.

  14. BroMu, I’d not share the scatological information. That’s a bit much, even for here.

Ace, if by “up,” you mean north on the map, then that is correct. The financial reality of living within a few miles of Apple Park caught up with me and not in a good way.

    Steve G. (Still anonymous. Grrr…)

  15. Steve G.,
Gentrification seems to be a problem most places nowadays, at least those that attract those with education or good taste.
I think there are some affordable options in Mississippi, although the commute to a place with actual jobs might be daunting.

    BroMu,
I always see my frosty avatar when I post from any device other than a fax machine. I won’t post as Anonymous so long as those hacktivist dudes are using the name. It wouldn’t be prudent.

  16. BroMu, I’d like to apologize for any smoke from our wildfires in the western US and Canada that may have drifted into your local skies. I read somewhere that 70% of the current fires are believed to be the result of human negligence and stupidity, coupled with long term drought conditions, but I assure you that I didn’t personally cause anything to burst into flames.

I also assure you that many in the US who are deficient in grey matter don’t connect any of this with the so-called “global warming” that Al Gore, climatologists, and brainy types have been blabbering about for years in their global warning.

  17. I just assume that any drifting smoke around here is from burning cars or mattresses, Ace. And I wouldn’t think for a moment that you’d personally cause anything to burst into flames.

EXCEPT YOUR PANTS, YOU LIAR (liar)!

    Hah!

    Book him, Danno.

    1. I had no idea what you were getting at, so I had to look it up:

“…And when I bought it not half an hour ago, you assured me that its lack of movement was due to it being tired and shagged out after a long squawk.”
“It’s probably pining for the fjords.”
“Pining for the fjords, what kind of talk is that?”

I am more culturally deprived than I was willing to believe.

    1. I’m not kidding. I am sadly deficient in my consumption of Monty Python and of Dr. Who, for example. However, I am pretty much up to date on my Sherlock Holmes, P.G. Wodehouse, Terry Pratchett, and Jonathan Gash. Started in on Agatha Christie a few months ago and have been slogging along ever since.

  18. I don’t even know who you are anymore, Ace.

Next you’ll be telling us that you’ve never sampled Douglas Adams or tea.

    Tsh.

  19. We were a meiow down for the last week, but it just turned up this morning looking very much the worse for wear. I think curiosity may have nudged it down from nine to eight.

  20. My life has had mostly arfs, a few less meows, and the occasional moo and neigh.

Lately we have a frequent visitor of the yip yip yip yip yip persuasion, apparently warning us of a grizzly bear at the door. It means well, I am sure.

  21. The site seems not to remember me unless I put my name in every time. ‘Tis most vexing.

Grizzly bears are clearly very cute. Look at all the ‘z’s’ in their name. No harm can come of that, surely?

  22. Oh dear. We’ve been properly stitched this time. Don’t click on any of those ‘latest post’ links on the left. Yeagh!

  23. I spoke just enough “pirate” on that day to ensure I could say I had done so.

I don’t do well at the pirate approach to communication – grammar keeps creeping in and it’s no use…

  24. Why has no one thought of doing ‘Speak Like A Grammar Nazi’ day? Or, if that’s too much of a mouthful, just ‘Speak Like A Nazi’ day?

That would surely jolly us all up?

  25. People usually miss out the ‘to’ there, Steve.

To bring a slight downer to proceedings . . . I am increasingly vexed about the absence of Nxxx. Hopefully we’re all fine now (are we . . . or are recent brushes with oblivion just not being mentioned now?), but I fear Nxxx is not. Hmmmm. I’ll try and contact John again to pass him my email to pass on to Nxxx or something.

  26. Count me as one who misses the sometimes lively, sometimes curmudgeonly contributions of Nxxx. Whatever the reason of his continued absence, it would be good to have some of the “closure” that people refer to in matters like these. If I knew Dirk Gently, I would hire him on the spot to extract the truth.

  27. What do we “know” about Nxxx? Without digging through the archives of the Mega-, Giga-, and other posts, a few things come to mind:
    • Welsh, from southern Wales
    • Possibly ran for public office in Croydon, years ago.
    • Participated in rowing, maybe at college.
    • Fancied himself a disgusted Colonel, retired.
    • Was a Morris dancer.

Surely, that narrows it down a tad? What do you recall in the way of possible biographical bits?

  28. + Rode a motorbike.

That’s pretty much done it now, I reckon. I should be able to track him down in a couple of days?

  29. Hrm… (the concerned kind).

I was just perusing the comments the older comments and the last Nxxx post was 30 or 31 December 2017 (depending on how the times are determined around here, possibly some random derivative of GMT).

Here’s hoping (seriously) that all is OK with Nxxx.

  30. Friends, I reached out to Mr. Moltz via the Twitter asking about Nxxx. His reply from a little while ago:
I went back and found an email address associated with his handle and sent him a message. I’ll let you know if I hear back.
