No post tonight

In the comments, please give me your favorite Saturday morning TV shows from the ’70s and ’80s.

For me it was that one where they drove around in a van in a post-apocalyptic America with a talking chimp.

How fricking boss would that be?

What the hell was the name of that show?

Hmm.

Well, then, of course, there’s always Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

  1. Ohh… ohhh…. What was the show with the junk yard guy who builds a rocket from junk parts… visits the moon… does all kinds of spacey stuff.

    Ahhhg…..

Ohh, and Space 1999 (Better remembered than re-watched.)

Of course most any Warner Bros. toon from late 40’s to late 50’s… then they went to hell with the minor exception of Road-Runner.

The Muppets (Rarely for the guest star, mostly for the chef and pigs in space.)

Pretty much anything that was on Saturday morning before Soul Train. You knew morning cartoons were over when that train derailed.

Somehow I totally missed Lance Link and Speed Racer until I was in my 30’s. Go figure.

Ewww…. Wonder Twins. Secret Powers ACTIVATE!

  2. Speed Racer. Hmmmph. Tobar the Eight Man was there first.

I can’t believe not a single mention of Rocky & Bullwinkle or George of the Jungle.

    Watch out for that tree!

  3. Sorry, dudes, but with the notable exception of “My Little Pony”, there’s been no good Children’s TV since “The Friendly Giant” and “The Uncle Bobby Show”.

  4. No.

    Must Be Early 60’s.

    Fireball XL-5

    The pentultimate sci-fi cartoon…

I hope there is at least 1 other reader of this rag who remembers….

  5. John,

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but the absolute BEST kid’s TV show EVER on the ENTIRE PLANET—-

    J.P. Patches.

Gertrude, Boris Wart, Sturdly the Bookworm, Grandfather Clock, the ICU2 TV set.

If y’ain’t a Patches Pal, forget about it.

  6. Transformers – teh ultimate

    Star Blazers – close second

    Bugs Bunny whatever

    3 Stooges

Sorry to admit these, but… TurboTeenIDreamofJeannieBewitchedGilligan’sIslandrerurns

The secretary will disavow any knowledge etc…

  7. This came a little later, but my ultimate Saturday morning cartoon was Garfield and Friends. That just defined lazing around on a Saturday morning.

Before that, the Smurfs and the Snorks were the classics.

Anyone else remember the Smurfs “movie,” in which the two human kids fall through some kind of magical wormhole and discover the Smurfs for the first time? Trippy.

  8. Squished Squirrel,

You are thinking of the made-for-TV movie “Salvage One.” Andy Griffith took on the scientific establishment and dared to build a rocket that would take him to the moon. His motive was to retrieve all the space junk NASA left during the Apollo lunar missions.

    Oh…. 62nd!

  9. I loved The Great Space Coaster! Does anyone remember Francine, the beautiful 16 year old brunette singer/guitar player on the show who used to play lots of practical jokes on Puppet Goriddle Gorilla? Please sign the bring back the great space coaster online petition @ www. petitiononline.com/TGSC because it now has 2,287 signatures. Does anyone remember all the celebrity guest stars that appeared on the show such as Actress’ Sally Struthers, Linda Gray of Dallas, “Mary” Kathleen Turner, Joan Collins of Dynasty and Aileen Quinn AKA “Annie” to name just a few. This was a classic live action chuldren’s puppet t.v. show that ran 5 years from 1981 to 1986 syndicated. Also popular on the show was Gary Gnu: And the no gnus is good gnus show!!

  10. very good point I had not thought of – but I still think the original poster was closer to the answer..
