For the next five seconds while this open wifi network works! More later, if the person running it doesn’t hack my MacBook!
I’m here with Chris Breen, Craig Hockenberry and 10,000 others. I didn’t get their names.
9:03 – LIGHTS DIMMING!
Ladies and gentlemen…. PHIL SCHILLER! Thunderous applause and ladies panties!
9:05 – Holy crap, I’m not sure I even remember how to do this.
OK, Phil is showing us pictures of Apple Stores. And he’s proud to announce a new store is coming TO TACOMA!
The crowd is going wild!
New version of iLife. Phil STICKS IT to Microsoft! YES!
Which, really, is fair. They do suck. Badly. Have you noticed? What is the deal with that?
9:09 – Phil’s demoing a new face-recognition technology in iPhoto 09, but I think I’m really just stunned there’s an open wifi network in here.
But it’s pretty cool that you can find pictures of international criminals in your iPhoto library.
9:12 – Phil has shown Faces and now he’s showing Places. Next up Laces, an astonishing new technology that will put doilies on all your pictures.
Finally, Flickr and Facebook direct upload. What, no MySpace? Hey, Apple, 1999 called and said, um, hey, I know I’m 10 years ago but, um, er…
You know what? MySpace didn’t really call.
9:25 – Aaaand there goes the wifi. OK, now 3D themes for slide shows. Pictures will literally jump off the screen, so people are being warned that, if you’re a close typer, you should probably sit back a bit, particularly if any of your family members are especially pointy.
With face recognition, you no longer have to remember all those tedious names of people like, oh, your children or other loved ones. A quick look at your MacBook when a toddler comes into your room late at night afraid of monsters under the bed (when really it’s just hobos you’re subletting to) and you’ll be able to say “Go back to bed, Ali, it’s just the hobos.”
9:35 – You can add locations to all your events by just putting it on one pictures. Also, what’s even neater is you can lie to it and say you were in Paris when you were really you were at the Mall of America.
Or vice versa depending on how you roll.
New version of iMovie. Again! Shorter Apple: Help us! We can’t stop fucking with things! We need an intervention! Also, none of your projects will be backward compatible!
And now, an engineer will show us the changes.
Ha-ha! Right! C’mon, Apple! “Actual engineers” aren’t stylishly dressed, handsome and deep-voiced to the point of being a voiceover actor! I bet “Randy” isn’t even really his name. I bet he’s not even an Apple employee. I’LL BET HE’S NOT EVEN UP THERE RIGHT NOW!
9:45 – Image stabilization is nice, but even better is image decrapularization which makes your video, well, just more interesting. Let’s face it, your life in your parent’s basement is really not very interesting. And when you get your Star Wars collectibles out and play with them and record it, no one gives a shit. But with image decrapularization, your parents’ basement becomes a stylish nightclub and your Star Wars action figures become fabulous babes.
And you get removed completely.
9:55 – Garage Band will now teach you how to play either a guitar or a keyboard. Artists such as Sting and Norah Jones will actually teach you how to play their own songs! Further lessons will teach you how to develop a drug and/or sex addiction!
New version of iWork!
Oh, oh! Wait! There’s the beer guy! HEY! BEER GUY! HEY! BEER GUY!
What?
You don’t have any pale ale? OK. Well, when are you coming back? You have to go… OK. Well, see, I don’t want Bud Lite, is the thing. Is there another guy?
No, I don’t want hard lemonade. You know what? I’ll wait. I haven’t finished my gin and tonic yet anyway.
Oh, hey, Pages has a full screen mode! They just put Write Room out of business! Congratulations! You’re this year’s road kill! You’ll get your packet in the mail and Arlo Rose will give you a courtesy call and walk you through the process.
10:15 – The Mac Box Set is iLife, Leopard and iWork. It ships for $169 and comes with fries and a medium fountain drink.
iWork.com is a new collaboration tool for you and your friends to work on your little Battlestar Galactica fan fiction projects. Yeah, you fricking dweebs can upload your stupid alternative scenarios and whatever the hell it is you clowns do.
You people just make me sick.
Now, Apple fan fiction… writing that is pretty cool.
Man, you just can’t get through a keynote without someone filling the room with ass vapor.
Jesus.
Third thing – new 17-inch MacBook Pro. Aaaaand that’s it. All the aluminum in the world is now gone.
And, well, the 17-inch MacBook looks like you would imagine.
EXCEPT FOR THE HIGH-INTENSITY PHOTON PROJECTOR! YEAH! ZAP! PTZOOO! FZZZAT! Cut through diamonds! Power reactors! Slay your enemies! It’s the 17-inch MacBook Pro with a high-intensity photon projector!
And now, a video with Big Bob Mansfield.
Big Bob Mansfield. Ask for him by name. Accept no substitutes. There are a lot of knock-off chief hardware engineers out there. Big Bob Mansfield is not one of them. You’ve tried the rest, now try the best: Big Bob Mansfield.
Big Bob Mansfield is a subsidiary of Yoyodyne Propulsion Laboratories. Big Bob Mansfield is a meat-based product low in sodium. Big Bob Mansfield makes his own gravy.
Big. Bob. Mansfield.
Enjoy him with breakfast, lunch and, now, dinner. Big Bob Mansfield should not be taken by pregnant women or small children. Do not immerse Big Bob Mansfield in water, or he may get wet. When handling Big Bob Mansfield, always use white silk gloves, to avoid streaking. Big Bob Mansfield is available NOW from your grocer’s freezer section.
Big Bob Mansfield. He’s not tan, reasonably well rested and ready.
Big Bob Mansfield.
Thank you.
Oh, they also talked about a battery. For like 20 minutes.
Did you know that the new MacBook is completely recyclable? It’s true. But more than that, you can just eat it. Is it expensive to eat one? Sure. But don’t you deserve to eat something nice? Sure you do.
iTunes has sold over 6 billion songs. And I get the feeling they’re about to sell us a bunch more, just without all that fucking DRM.
3 new things for iTunes. Price. New tiers. You might get your songs for more or less, depending on how crappy your taste is and how desperate you are for the song.
iTunes Plus? Yep. 8 million songs DRM-free starting today, all of them DRM free before the end of the quarter. And you get to pay for them again! It’s a win-… uh, it’s a win!
I’m not complaining. I’m downloading. I know what side my bread is buttered on.
BOTH.
iTunes Music Store works now on 3G.
10:30 – And now a performance! But Steve isn’t here this year with his namby-pamby baby-boomer tastes.
SO, IT’S ALL-NUDE GIRLS ON REVIEW!
…
Oh, my god, no. It’s better.
TONY FUCKING BENNET.
Holy crap, I’m actually really excited.
“The Best Is Yet To Come” and “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”.
And there you have it.
(You’re god damned right there was a standing ovation.)
FIRST!
I got first. Oh man I’m so going to Twitter this, so both my friends know about it!
this is the only reason to keep usign RSS!!!
to be in the top 10 of cars!!!
to be in the top 10 of cars!!!
Welcome Back!
Man, this live coverage of the keynote ROCKS!!!
I so want a brand new MacBook Wheel!
http://i.gizmodo.com/5124083/onion-news-network-apples-macbook-wheel
When does the interprative dance start?
To be honest, I’m not really feeling the Schillermania. Maybe I need to get HD.
top ten
Eleventh!!!11
Man, this coverage is awesome. Best I’ve seen. You know, of the first 2 minutes of Phil’s presentation. Otherwise, it’s pretty lacking. Get working, Moltz, or I’m calling your mother!
This coverage is riveting.
What colors pants is he wearing?
John,
You are looking as sophisticated yet younger than ever. Your prose are riveting, so descriptive yet eerily sparse.
Don’t believe them when they tell you I’ve only posted this as I need your vote for the Croydon Mayoralty.
Has Moltz had a stroke? No posts for much too long.
Schiller has shot Moltz!
9:03: LIGHTS DIMMING!
Ladies and gentlemen…. PHIL SCHILLER! Thunderous applause and ladies panties!
9:05: Holy crap, I’m not sure I even remember how to do this.
OK, Phil is showing us pictures of Apple Stores. And he’s proud to announce a new store is coming TO TACOMA!
The crowd is going wild!
10:45am: Some other stuff happened too. But seriously, folks, PHIL SCHILLER!!
And that’s it! Thank you everybody! Have a great show!
Men. They always be disappointing. sigh…….
Better late than never I suppose.
Fantastic!
I just happened to pop in for a spell in 2009 and was delighted to see you publish a story today!
Now, back to my TARDIS and off to 2014 find out if the new batteries really last 5 years.
Brilliant!
-=The Doctor=-
When they post the stream of the Philnote tonight I’m just going to skip to the end. Tony! Yeah! Crazy baby, just crazy!
383 DRM’d tunes just got replaced on my machine! Die DRM, die!
(That’s German for “The DRM, the!” Or should it have been “Das DRM, das!”?? I can never keep that stuff straight.)
Now for some pie.
It’s virtually like being actually there, really!
Thanks, Mr. Moltz.
If Schiller did not shoot Moltz, did Moltz shoot Schiller?
Oh no! Schiller shot Jobs.
I’ve met Randy. He is the real deal.

Once again CARS proved the best transcript of Keynote coverage across the entire field! Seriously. The Gin&Tonic might have helped me through the other ones. You lucky bastard.
I could have done without Phil’s “Ode to algore” slide though. It’s San Fransisco, so I guess when in Rome…
Nope. Can’t do it. Gagging’s a reflex, you know?
MORE.
MORE I SAY.
Thanks for the coverage John. Did you bring anything home for us??
Twenty-eight.
[Silly is seen standing on a stage in a white leotard, which is impossible to distinguish from his white fur. With an uncharacteristically serious look on his face, he assumes the ballet first position. He then looks down at the floor of the stage where there lie open copies of Barbara Morgan’s Martha Graham: Sixteen Dances in Photographs, Agnes Thurner’s Square Dancing in Wisconsin: An Historical Anthology, 1948-1998, and a bootlegged version of “Modern Interpretive Dance for Dummies. Sighing meaningfully, Silly nods slightly in an off-stage direction to signal his accompanist to push the “Play” button on the boom-box.
Bizarre music begins to wheeze, thump and squeak, and an intense look seizes Silly’s face as he appears to count down to some wholly indiscernible rhythm. Suddenly Silly lurches into action, his arms, legs, head, ears, and tail swirling about as he executes a pirouette, a moonwalk, and then a dosado. He abruptly freezes in a stance that, with his ears flowing behind him, looks for all the world like the Rolls Royce “Flying Lady” hood ornament. Without moving any other part of his body, Silly slips one toe over to turn the page in the Martha Graham book and sneaks a quick look for further inspiration.
Silly then jerks back into action and performs an interleaved combination of a pas-de-deux, an Allemande Left, and the Hokie-Pokie. He then somehow executes a triple lutz with a reverse half twist and ultimately finishes with an original step sequence inspired by Arabian dances (which, unfortunately, he naively named… well, let’s just call it the tip of a dromedary’s foot). The “music” halts mid-squawk, as though someone had unexpectedly pushed the “Stop” button.
Silly purposefully stands upright, places his hands on the back of hips, and pants like a distance runner who has just completed a tough race. He looks you straight in the eye with a confident, almost confrontational look of accomplishment. Between deep breaths, he speaks.]
“If you’re going to expect interpretive dance, then you’re going to have to give up the Hassenpfeffer. It’s as simple as that.”
Decisions…..decisions……..
What? Don’t look at me!
Best interpretive dance ever. But now I’m hungry.
This is THE funniest live blog I have ever read!
“BOTH” sides! LOL!!!
My son reads this and bad language is not necessary… Get a grip!
If you object to your son reading our bad language, exercise your parental control or in your verbiage, get a grip. Now leave us in peace or pieces.
Oh belgium!
Now the profanity can’t possibly get any worse. Satisfied?
I spent a very happy five weeks in Belgium teaching safer driving on sheet ice some years ago. I know it was sheet ice as that is what the clients kept saying.
Puns are the highest form of humour (or is that irony?)
Buffoonery is the acme of hilarity. Slapstick is the pinnacle of ludicrosity. Folksiness is the apotheosis of chuckletude.
Me holding forth on a subject about which I know nothing is the nadir of lameness.
Woohoo! Crazy Apple Rumors is back! Woohoo!
I miss it so much. Back when I worked for Apple, I loved reading CARS; it was the only way I ever got to learn what was really happening in the company. I still remember reading about how Apple was going to move Mac OS X to 64 bits incrementally — first 47 bits, then 53 bits, then 61. Then I went to talk to the operating systems guys, and I found out that 10.4 really was 53 bits! I never doubted CARS again!
Now I work at boring old Google and I miss the days of seeing coworkers outed as CARS rumormongers.
Please come back, CARS! I want to know what’s happening out there at Infinite Loop!
There you go! Robert’s post here ought to inspire you to create yet another new website, John — one where you could share the wildest and craziest rumors about Google with its youngest and most enthusiastic fans. And you could call it
— brace yourselves —
“Google Ga-ga.”
I know this is fake because I’ve actually heard of Tony Bennett.
Glad you got your hearing aid working again.
I didn’t say I heard Tony Bennett; I said I’d heard of him. I’m not fixin’ this hearing aid until there’s something worth listening to. Young whippersnapper!
@38: Wasn’t it oh sheet ice?
@35: There’s no bad language, but maybe there’s some bad grammar. Mayhaps you meant “foul language,” but then, I don’t see anyone talking about chickens. (I don’t think that Big Bob Mansfield qualifies. Too manly.) What exactly is a “bad language” anyway? French?
This sections working better than Apoca.
Anyone for Tunnels?
I’m sorry, I can’t read a story this long. It’s the scrolling and the flashing.
I don’t want to kill any more pets.
Y’know, that “Laces” feature you described is downright inspiring. Maybe there are some other features that could be added to iPhoto…
… like, oh, say…
Bases — Organize your photos according to which one are belong to us.
Braces — Kicks in when there’s just a liiittle too much “bling.”
Carapaces — Use this when your pictures look like shell.
Chases — Keeps track of all those shots you took, even if you don’t remember anything after the first three.
Maces — All your Renaissance Fair pix, mustered and at the ready, my Lord!
Um, maybe I’d better stop there… Besides, I’m getting into Risky teRRitory…
Benny, I really liked your earlier “Google Ga-ga” message. I was, like, LOL and stuff.
