  1. My Christmas circuits don’t activate until the first week of December. But I’ll be happy to talk about Jack Frost.

  2. Are the previous two posts euphemistic?

    Is Steve talking about cocaine?

And why on earth would Nxxx be encouraging us to see his ‘artificial ski slope’ when he knows Operation Yewtree hasn’t wrapped up yet?

  3. BroMu,
Are you sure you’ve passed the CRB test to be a teacher?

Just reminding you that South London has its skiing highlights.

  4. Know what you mean BroMu, I passed too.

For the Cousins this refers to a check of the Criminal Records to make sure that you are a suitable person for what you wish to do.

    BTW:-Have a good Thanksgiving.

  5. Such a check is not often required on this side. Except if you want to be a lawyer. But once you pass, you are free to resume (or begin) such activities if you are of such a mindset.

Thanks for the well wishes. Good luck to all those who are braving the shopping crowds tomorrow morning.

  6. My poem for tomorrow is:

    Ice-glazed sidewalks and roads
    Buggers didn’t shovel or salt
    Nearly slipped and fell
While taking my child to school
    Bloody hell!
    It’s all your fault
I hope you turn into toads

  7. I’m welling up here, Steve. I’m usually quite stiff-upper, but your beautiful Sonnet to Snow has melted my heart. I’m just nipping out for a hanky. I may be some time.

  8. Ace – I recall that at some point during my education, I needed to write poems in various forms. I couldn’t tell you what form the above missive is in.

  9. Missile, thistle, whistle.

I’m sure they fit into a limerick somehow, but they are not cooperating. I’ll have to get back to you on that one…

  10. Holidays? Bah! Hunbug! When you are retired, every day is a work day, resulting in no distinction between days.

Just keep working harder BtoMu, as I’d like a rise in my State Pension.

    Have a Good one guys.

    1. Huzzah, MacBrothers and Sisters!

I know I’m not on here very much, but I do read every comments that arrives in my hideous mailbox!

2013 was shite, no? Well, 2014 is going to be great. I can feel it in my throbbing loins!

I hope all my brothers, sisters, SexBots and Grues have a very Mac-y christmas!

      Peace, bitches!

  11. The most intelligent morning radio programme on this side of the Pond is “Today” and they had a true story from a vicar’s wife.

She noticed this very serious faced girl at the primary,4=7 year old, school Nativity play. Asked her what was wrong and received this reply.

“Last year I played Gabriel, this year I’m Mary. It is much harder playing a virgin than an angel.”

  12. Indeed. When the angel is giving Mary the news, it’s hard to get a satisfying answer to “How can this be? Are you sure you have the right person? Why is He sending a proxy?” Etc.

  13. Hmmm. It seems that HTML tags don’t work on CARS (or certainly the strikethrough for ‘sociopaths’ above didn’t).

    That could be a problem.

Strikethroughs account for well over 82% of my humour.

  14. The other 18% isn’t half bad.

May this new year appear later on timelines than last year, for all of us!

  15. I am renewed by Ace’s kind words and Nxxx’s inspirational role-modelling.

I hereby commit myself to a five-year mission: to explore strange new methods of redaction, to seek out new topics to redact and new types of non-transluscent, redaction-friendly paper, to boldly strikethrough where no redactor has struckthrough before.

  16. Another tried-and-true method of redaction uses scissors. It has the added benefit of free confetti, with the possible downside of a document that refuses to stay in one piece.

  17. Ace, I think the red pens might be easier on the screen. Cutting it may take more effort.

Yes, the cold has finally snapped. Going to return to a relatively balmy 30F or so. Coldest it’s been here (Philadelphia) in 19 years (before I lived here). And you?

  18. Steve, I’ve been using what you chaps would call a ‘Sharpie’, I believe. It really does the business . . . but it’s damned tricky lining every new document up with the marks on the screen. Indeed, with all the redaction action I’ve been getting lately, my screen is now one black, sticky mess.

Although it’s nice to have a colour change on that front, it does rather wear out my Sharpie. Mind you, it also does a bang up job of preventing anyone reading any sensitive information. Or, in fact, anything at all.

  19. Here in Croydon, a “sharpie” is something you push into someone you don’t like.

    Problem:-It scratches the screen.

  20. “Sharpie” is the brand name. I suppose you could use the more wordy but generic “permanent marker with a fine point.” Either way, it will still mess up your screen.

Have you tried a dry erase marker? It might work, and in theory, should be wipeable. But since I don’t know where theory is, you’ll need to experiment.
